In the matter filed against Kiss Daniel by his former label, G-Worldwide, the Federal High Court in Lagos ruled yesterday that having made a case for the grant of injunctions against the artists, on the basis that the same evidence which was presented for the grant of the injunctions are same with those submitted to the court for the trial and main issue, the court is constrained to make an order for an accelerated hearing and trial of the matter.

Recall that the court had order the parties to maintain status quo under the recording contract in December 2017, and by virtue of the fact that both parties have submitted themselves to the court, parties are to refrain from taking any steps or doing any act that may affect the final decision of the court.

The parties are to come before the court on 16th May, 2018 with their witnesses – Emperor Geezy and Kiss Daniel on that day to tender their evidence and testify.

A source has hinted that Kiss Daniel through his lawyers have reached out to his former label with a hope to reach a settlement.

Lil Kesh peaked as an artiste during his days in YBNL, under the watchful eye of Olamide who introduced him to the niche of street-based audience which welcomed him as prince while Olamide remains King.

Even after gaining his freedom after the completion of his apprenticeship at YBNL, Lil Kesh continued to make music for the streets even though he struggled to maintain the high standards of his YBNL days during which he was earmarked for as future leader.

Leaving behind the relatively lukewarm 2017 which was far from his best music years, Lil Kesh looks to shake off the laden of fear and doubts in a mission of resurface from having been lost in the dark hole. He stretches his hands, offering a new song titled ‘Apa Mi’, to his audience with the hope that it would be accepted like his biggest releases under YBNL were.

TooXclusive team members reviewed Lil Kesh’s ‘Apa Mi’ and here’s what we think of it:

@ibironketweets In about 4 minutes of play, Lil Kesh’s ‘Apa Mi’ succeeds in stimulating dance moves commonly seen in mainland parties, with the groovy instrumental supplied by rising producer named, Princeton.

Lil Kesh however leads me as a listener hoping for something of substance, near the point of being bored to death – irregular rhymes, repetitive words and unnecessary pauses that plagued what sounds like an almost catchy tune.

And much of the interesting features of the song can be traced to the application of Yoruba nursery rhymes which aced as the much-needed flair for ‘Apa Mi’ to be considered a club-friendly song.

@therealmarcusbrown Lil Kesh seemed to be one of those few talents who would grow on to be the dream of the Nigerian music industry but of late, it seems like the singer might have fallen off that radar because he hasn’t churned out anything outstanding in the past few months.

Is Lil Kesh possibly on his way to redeeming that feat?

Well, ‘Apa Mi’ is that record which ought to put the rapper on track but unfortunately, the record is just one that is below par as the rapper cum singer tries his best to flow with the Shaku Shaku wave.

Talking about the production, Princeton just does the regular up-tempo beat for the dance floors.

Hopefully, in the nearest future, Lil Kesh might come out with something more tangible. But if you are just here to dance, ‘Apa Mi’ is that average dance track for you.

In the words of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, we hope we find his footprints on the sands of time.

I do not listen to artistes who do not inspire me. I feel like they take from me and give me nothing. That’s why I always recommend that people listen to artistes whose lives are inspiring and those whose music, inspiration can be drawn from.

Everyone needs as much inspiration as one can get, to course through life. We need to feed off positive energies and channel these energies into our passion and drive to achieve success. So where do we get these energies and inspiration from – from music, from art, from artistes, from friends and more. I want to look at my favourite artiste, listen to his music, and be inspired. I want to look at his/her life and achievements and be moved to do same in my life. I expect you to do the same.

So I decided to draw up a list of 5 inspiring Nigerian artistes:

Olamide
From the streets of Bariga, he rose to prominence, hurdling over challenges and rising above the struggles to catch his date with destiny. Olamide’s success story has become a lore told to every ghetto kid aspiring to make something out of life. Millions of young boys have found hope in his story. This belief has taken a central position in his artistry and his music feeds the streets with hope. Songs like Hustle Loyalty Respect, Anifowose, Eleda Mi, Letter To Milli are some of his most inspiring materials.

M.I Abaga
Music is a powerful tool. Hip-hop is a boundless source of inspiration even though it is often seen to promote violence and social vices. It is a tool that can be used depending on the handler, and for 10 years now, M.I Abaga has used his gift to inspire people. He has been a beacon of hope, brilliance and a role model to many. I felt particularly inspired when I heard his line, “tell me what it costs to be great, I’d pay the whole bill.” It planted a seed in me that made me believe that if I’m willing to sacrifice, I can be great. M.I makes this list because of lyrical contents like that. He has also played a role in the success of people like Wizkid, Ice Prince and co. which should count as testaments to his inspirational character.

Banky W
“I connected to the spirit and mentality of what he was saying and it inspired me to go out and conquer my life.” Banky W stressed the importance of listening to inspiring artistes when he said this about Jay-Z. Interestingly, Banky has been able to infuse inspiring elements in his artistry, and his lifestyle remains a model for people to learn from. He has managed to overcome setbacks to live a life full of wins which mostly can be attributed to his versatility in music, acting, film making and event anchoring. He sets a perfect example for aspiring young men on how to enjoy a successful business and romance life.

2Baba
He is called the father of many nations for his history with women and making babies, but beyond that, 2Baba has inspired a younger generation of Nigerian creatives with his achievements and the content of his music which carries a lot of social conscious themes and soul-lifting messages. When you talk of 2Baba, you remember his grass to grace story and it helps you believe that anything is possible.

Cobhams Asuquo
How he plays music instruments and how he turns the sounds into quality music even without sight, is a thing to marvel at. People think he is the one with disability but he sees himself as a man full of abilities and that’s how his mind is set, that’s how he trained himself, according to a friend of mine. Cobhams is one of the leading producers in the country with a penchant for making inspirational and soul-touching music and he has managed to do this without the privilege of having a functional eyesight. He is the Nigerian Stevie Wonder and if you’re thinking it is impossible to achieve certain things when you’re faced with challenges, the life and art of Cobhams should inspire you and help you faith hope.

“This is not your boy, this is your main man, Maynevent!” – were the lines that first caught our attention on the TX Fresh Face session for Delta State-born rapper turned singer, Maynevent.

The graduate of Geophysics from the University of Calabar, has had quite an unusual foray into music. Unlike his many colleagues who face opposition from family over the decision to pursue their musical ambition, Maynevent experienced massive support since the age of 11 (when he was in JS2) by his fam – his father especially – who showed unrivaled support by paying for his very first studio recording session.

Although he is presently vested in a post-graduate degree programme at the University of Lagos, he remains undeterred from his music course. He recently put out a new single titled ‘Something‘ produced by E-Kelly, to which he delivers a mock performance for, right after sharing details on other prospects in music as well as his burning desire to oversee the music affairs of 3 talented young cats in the near future.

The $5,000 (about N1.8m) donation by Davido, to a Rwandan music school has continued to generate mixed reactions from Nigerian musicians.

Some sections of the commentators commended him for his benevolence while some others have termed the act as a showoff especially because of the manner the news broke out on the internet. Some observers even suggested that Davido should have extended the gesture to music schools in Nigeria. They said those with interest in music could be sponsored by Nigerian artistes in music school to curb social vices.

Nigerian flutist, Omatshola Iseli, popularly known as “Tee Mac,” said such an act of generosity was not supposed to be publicised.

“The donor should have done it quietly without bringing it into public limelight,’’ he said; adding that celebrities as public figures should be more concerned about giving back to the society, just as Davido has done.

“They should, however, try to minimize how the members of the public sing their praises due to their generosity.

“As celebrities, we need to give back to the society depending on how buoyant we are; but this must be done without publicity.

“And I believe such will be appreciated more by God, as Davido has tried,” he said.

Folklore musician, Ayo Orobiyi, popularly called Adunni Nefertiti, said Davido’s generosity was a beautiful development for the Rwandan music industry.

She said the Rwanda music was below the acceptable standards when compared with music produced by other African countries.

She said the school should channel the donation to the right direction for the improvement of the Rwandan music industry.

They would be able to pace up with the quality of music produced in Nigeria and some other African countries, Orobiyi said.

“This is a good development coming from one of us in Nigeria. I believe he must have observed that Rwanda needed such help more than Nigeria because their music is nothing to be compared with ours,” she said.

Nigerian reggae musician, Austin Peters, known as King Wadada, urged Nigerian artistes who are financially buoyant to demonstrate such generous act to music schools in the country.

King Wadada, who appreciated Davido’s gesture to Rwanda, said Nigerian youths could also be assisted in enrolling in Nigerian music schools.

According to him, musicians can train the less privileged Nigerian youths who are interested in becoming musicians by sponsoring them in music schools.

Wadada said this would curb the crime rate and other atrocities engaged in by youths.

“Davido has tried so far; aside the pledge to the Rwandan music school, he has created a niche for himself and this is highly commendable.

“I will call on other Nigerian artistes to emulate him, but this time, such assistance must be for music schools in Nigeria.

“There are many youths who will appreciate being trained in the music school as a way to further their career in singing.

“Such youths can be sponsored in music schools and we will discover that crime rates and some other social vices will be minimized,” he said.

Peters also advised Nigerian musicians to ensure that the contents of their music were edifying to the souls of the listeners and serve as tools for behavioural change.

“Our music should be capable of achieving positive results, changing the negative behaviour of people to the positive.

“Let us change the societal problems through our songs,” he said. (NAN)

We are all too familiar with the details of the media spectacle made out of the union of Tiwa Savage and Tunji Balogun (Teebillz) back in the year 2016, following a series of dangerous revelations from both parties that involved grave accusations on the subjects of cheating, use of hard drugs and alleged witchcraft.

Music diva, Tiwa Savage took a lot of time under to work on reconciling differences with her then estranged husband. At some point, rumour had it that she had taken him back and the couple were seriously vesting efforts to finding their matrimonial joy again. There were even a few appearances they made at public gigs, the last being her performance at the 2017 AFRIMMA where TJ (as she fondly calls him) snuck on stage and surprised her with a kiss.

But at this time, all that ‘gist’ has been deflated as nothing but fable tales. Fresh reports have it now that Tiwa Savage has filed for a divorce from Teebillz. News bit making rounds online claim that Teebillz has since absconded to the US, and that for quite some time now, the couple had become estranged again. Part of this claim is backed by the evidence of TJ’s obvious absence from social media affairs, which if we recall correctly, was the platform he used to air the dirty laundry back in 2016 when things degenerated badly for them.

Tiwa however seems to be really vested in her music and her son too, Jam Jam, who continues to make cute appearances on her social media posts. There’s hardly any recognition, reference or even a mention of Teebillz, which further buttresses the wild thought that all is really not well with the couple.

As of now, we have it in good report that the marriage annulment is already underway as the papers have been presented before a court. Only time will tell how soon before it goes through.
